1976 Super Beetle
Being born and growing up on St. Croix, USVI I was always exposed to Classic VWs. The VW culture in the Virgin Islands was and still is a big part of the automotive lifestyle. Fast forward some 40 years and I got an opportunity to purchase my first Bug. In speaking to a lady I worked with, I found out she owned a 1976 Super Beetle Convertible that she might be selling in the near future. Upon hearing this information I immediately told here that I would be interested in having first crack at buying it. Several months later she was ready to sell and the rest is history. After going to take a closer look at it, I pulled the trigger and give her full asking price, $1,000. Some would say there was not much there but I saw potential and it was running car with the original FI engine. First major work that was done to Lucy was getting a new set of floor pans and getting a fully rebuilt front end with lowering struts to get her stance right. A short few months later she was off to her first BugJam in Dade City, Florida. While she is not a show car by any means, it has been fun attending all the local car shows and meeting great new friends. Lucy has gone through several changes since I first got her and it has been fun getting together with friends to keep her running. We are lucky to have a great Dub community here in the metro area in Georgia and I look forward to many more year of fun with the top down.
