The car is a 1964 Beetle. Originally from Mississauga Ontario. It was bought new by a Lady in Mississauga who sold it to a fellow in Mississauga in the mid 80's. He turned it into a show & V.W. Trends feature car (April 1996). I have always admired the car from the magazine feature. Last fall while I was restoring my 56 oval I got a hold of the owner for some advice on building a show quality car. I finished my 56 & hastily sold it due to some financial planning. When I set a deal (with Marks Bug Barn) to buy it back, he sold it an hour before I showed to pick it up (good business man- not!). Anyway, I needed a high quality Bug. Through one of the members in Volks-R-Us (Thank you Steve), I heard that the Manahans were cleaning house (selling all there Bugs). So I contacted Ernie, & sure enough himself & his brothers had sold all of their show quality Bugs & this was the last one. It was not up for sale yet but He told me to come by. Of course when I saw it I had to have it. We made a deal & the car was mine. I came the next day with a trailer & an emotional Ernie said good-by to his Bug. Since then I have rewired the harness, added electronic ignition, changed the alternator, redone the stereo, & I am in the process of making new interior panels & changing the headliner. There will be lots of changes but the car will still remain the same in appearance. And the never ending Bug lifestyle begins again.
Joe's 1961 Beetle
I sold the yellow 1964 and I purchased this one. I have spent the last two months bringing it into shape. At this point I have left to do my seats & carpet. The car is a 1961 Beetle originally from Florida. I picked it up in Grimsby, ON. It has a custom tweed interior, disc brakes, dropped & narrowed beam, 1641cc with dual Kadrons, engle 110 cam, header, single quiet pack, electronic ignition, Berg remote oil filter & pump, Berg traction aids, Berg shifter, etc. Empi 5 spoke wheels with 135 & 165-15" tires. New wiring harness, fuel system , brakes & lines. This car is ready for summer.About us | Contact | Events | Forum | History | Home | Images | Interactive | Links | Tech
