BACK to Gallery 17 >> Jim's 1972 Super Beetle On a wet, stormy Saturday night we were just passing a row of truck dealers after hours when out of the corner of my eye, there he was. Sitting tall as he could in the center front row amongst the towering trucks surrounding him was a shiny little powder blue Beetle. I'd swear he was wiggling his antennae and shouting "Cheap Beetle for Sale! Cheap Beetle for Sale! Thrifty on gas! Need a new family! Cheap Beetle for sale!" My brother had had a bug and put over 100K miles on it before he sold it for a 64 GTO. My younger sister had driven 2 bugs over 200K miles and only sold them because they were hit by other cars and damaged beyond her capability to repair them. My older sister had a 71 Transporter, but I had never had (or wanted) a VW myself. Economics made the decision for me. After a quick loan from Mom and Dad and $1285 later, Robin and I had our very own Beetle. As you all know, it doesn't take long to fall in love with any VW, and all of them have their own personality. Our bug was soon manifesting his personality. The name "Buzzy" mimicked the sound his engine made at cruise and just seemed to fit. About
