I was 14 years old when I got my first car, it was a present from my Grandfather. We purchased the car for $3,200 dollars. It had brand new cloth top that was imported from Germany. The only real problem with the car was that the two passenger side fenders were dented in from a guardrail incident with the last owner. This ended up being my first chance to do some bodywork and definitely not my last. After about a month of toying with the car it was ready for daily driving, the only problem was that I was 14 years old. I had already soloed a glider but I couldn't drive my own car!
So the car sat for two years. After turning sixteen it was finally time to start driving my dream car. But unfortunately a bad grade in a high school geometry class prevented me from driving until the next school year. By the time that I got to drive it the car I had done a lot done to it: new CD player, a 12-inch subwoofer behind the back seat, two 6.5 inch speakers in the front, two 6X9's in the rear and a custom made consul with a digital tachometer. I had a lot of fun building and installing everything. I hope to never sell the car, but I plan on getting married soon, so that could all change. If I could do it all over again I would. Volkswagens have become a huge part of my life. And I can thank it all on my first car, my 1971 Super Beetle convertible.
