Adam's 1973 Super Beetle

Our 1973 Super Beetle has been in our family for about thirty four years. My Aunt Dean had owned two Karmann Ghia's before buying this one from her mechanic in 1976. He had bought it new for his wife. My aunt drove her "Baby" everyday until the late 1990's when she bought a car with air conditioning. I always loved her car as my sister and I rode in it as kids. I had tried several times to buy it from her and she always said no. Finally, in 2005 she asked my wife and I if we would like to buy it. We jumped at the chance. Originally the color was Biscayne Blue, but she had it painted Lotus White.

We started and finished the resto in 2008. The car was taken down to bare metal and Eddie's Paint and Body shot the Plum Purple paint which is a late model Camaro color. The interior was done in 1995 by Dean and her friend, we only replaced the carpet and had a dash cover installed. The shifter is EMPI as well as the exhaust. The shifter handle is a Candy Purple powder coated B&M handle. All powder coating was done by MARS Powder Coatings, air brushing done by Mike at The Air Brush Shop. Last year, our sixteen year old daughter, Becky got the "Bug" for Bugs, so we bought a 1972 Super Beetle that we are restoring as a Father - Daughter Project. She has learned a lot about VW's by helping me with ours as well as tearing her car and engine down.

She has changed the clutch, dizzy, did the engine swap from the stock 1600cc to a 1641cc,rebuilt the Solex carb and re-jetted it to accommodate the engine. She also adjusts the valves and just about everything else to our car. The model is our friend, the very lovely Whitney. Her car will be painted Pink or a Blue, as she has not made up her mind yet. We are building a 1641cc with dual Kadrons,110 cam, Gene Berg linkage, Gene berg sump, Gene berg full flow oil system, Gene Berg oil breather, and 1.25:1 rockers with Gene Berg dual exhaust.
