Ford Mustangs are my main car of choice, but I found that VW Beetles are too much fun to pass up. I bought this car 1 1/2 years ago from a couple that had owned it for many many years. It was in fairly good shape with the normal rust for Illinois, but not that bad. I have restored three bugs and this was the best by far. No rust in the floor pan at all and strong heater boxes. The interior was original and pretty well shot. The outside was blue with a green interior color, probably the original color. I removed and rebuilt the motor. It leaked pretty bad and when it was torn down I found a bent rod and a small hole in one jug. Even with that it ran well and sounded pretty good. I gutted the interior (excluding the headliner), and pulled all the glass out for painting. Sanded, repaired some dings and dents, primed and painted! Inside and out. This little bug is totally stock from front to back. It's a ball to drive and maintain. Only on nice days of course. It gets lots of looks and the little kids always point at it. The only problem I have to work out is a bad front end shimmy if I hit a small hole or turn to sharply. Sold all the prior re-do's, but plan to keep this one for a longggg time! Couple that had it before me had named it Zoppo and I kept the name, thus, Z-Bug. - Chuck Brenner About us | Contact | Events | Forum | History | Home | Images | Interactive | Links | Tech |
