BACK to Gallery 12 Stephen's 1971 Super Beetle Back in 1997, shortly after turning 18 my son Stephen came to me with a newspaper ad that read "1971 Bug, needs carb work. $500 or best offer". As it was a Sunday and I almost put it off but his enthiasum wouldn't let me. As we neared the address, we found out the car in front of us was answering the same ad. We arrived at the door with the other people in the lead. After everyone kicked the tires the people that got there first offered $400 and asked if Tuesday would be okay to pick the car up. Then Stephen and I had or turn. We offered the asking price and told the owner we would put a $200 deposit now and pay the other $300 on Monday (which was the next day) and the deal was made. After looking the Beetle over we saw that it was a 1302 and had a lot of extras. We found 5 VDO gauges, one piece front windows, nerf bumpers, a sun visor as well as chrome and gold wheels. Although it needs paint the interior is in great condition. Stephen is only with us in spirit now (he was a murder victim 12/24/97) but his car drives on. About
