I have always liked Beetles. I suppose how I got into Beetles was watching Herbie videos as a child. I had a blue 1973 Beetle with the Special Edition Jubilee wheels that were made only for that year. I came across this 1956 Beetle in Ireland. I now have it for sale in Ealing London England in a paper called the Classic Car Weekly that comes out every Thursday. I found this Beetle in May 1996 and my dad, a friend of ours, and myself went over to England to look at the car. We did not buy it there and then, but we gave a good deposit to hold it for us. In the mean time we sold the 1973 Beetle that I had to a man on a farm not too far from us, and then we went back to England in August to buy the '56 Beetle that we have now. We were able to drive it from London to Holyhead for the boat ride to Ireland with no problems. Except for the man at a filling station that put the wrong type of petrol in the car so we just made made it to the boat and no more. But apart from that everything was great. A couple of weeks after we got it the clutch went, but we were able to get the clutch reconditioned. When we got the car the spring that holds the engine lid up was off and had to be welded back on by a local panel beater. Because of that the engine lid had to be resprayed. A few months later the fuel tap for the reserve tank broke and the car leaked petrol, but luckily we were able to get a second hand reserve tap for the Beetle and fixed this ASAP. The car did have a little respraying done to it on the outside a few years before we got it, but it was very little and the floor is as solid underneath as the day it left the factory. I got some accessories for the car such as a shelf an extension handle for the fuel tap and a set of white walls which you can see in the photos. The chrome eye brows were on the car when we got it. The car has cloth seats and the interior is all original, which is just the way I like it. I intend to keep the car original and not add things such as alloy wheels or big exhaust pipes, because I feel that would take the originality and value from the car.
