Mike's 1974 Beetle

The "Bug" totally kicked in with Volkswagens when I was about 13 years old; I just loved everything about them! My neighbor had a custom bug that was nicely done and this is what probably put me over the edge, making my dream to have a Volkswagen Beetle as my first car. The possibility of actually getting a Bug happened when my grandparents sold their cottage. This gave me no use for my dirt bike so I had no choice but to sell it. The money I got from the sale of the dirt bike was only a fraction of the amount need to get a nice VW. But even with such a small amount of cash I convinced my dad to begin looking for an old beater that we could restore.

Nevertheless we came across a few cars but nothing was even close to what we would consider purchasing, they we just too much of a mess! My dad was talking to my neighbor and he claimed that his friend had a Bug that he rarely drove and would ask him if he would consider selling it to us. As luck would have it, he was willing to let it go (a bad move on his behalf but beneficial to mine). We looked at it and we fell in love, there was just something about it. I had numerous reasons to get it, but I didn't totally make the decision due to the fact that it was my dad's money (which I'm still trying to pay back).
