Mariano's 1975 Super Beetle

I got a phone call from Mariano asking me if I'd like a picture of a Beetle that's been written off for the web site. What I didn't catch was that the Beetle he was talking about was his '75 Super! He was on the way to a VW Event in the U.S. with some friends, cruising Highway 401 in Ontario Canada. Mariano's Beetle has no radio and it was late at night when he fell asleep at the wheel.

He said he didn't remember what happened next but he woke up with paramedics all around him. Carlo's was behind him in his '56 oval and said Mariano went onto the shoulder and over corrected. The car shot across to the median and cart wheeled 5 times! The only injury he sustained was a gash on his forehead, but the car was destroyed. Unfortunately the car had only been appraised at $6,000. It was reappraised a couple of weeks ago at $15,000 but Mariano had not gotten the new appraisal to the insurance company. The good news is that he is okay and just found a '55 Oval Rag for $5300. It's two tone done in Hunter Green and cream. Right now it's in pieces but he can salvage his motor and wheels from his '75 for his new ride.
