Lee's 1968 Beetle

My one owner 1968 standard Beetle is a Stickshift , with 3 forward gears [and reverse]. It had around 69,000 miles on the speedometer, when I bought it in 1996. It only had two small rust holes under the rear window rubber which my son brazed up. The engine was completely overhauled in 1997 and the original 1500 single port engine is now 1600cc, with a Bosch 009 distributor, a Weber carburetor, Bosch alternator and doghouse oil cooler and mew tinware. I installed an electric fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator. All rubbers on the body have been replaced including the headliner. All electrics, including the wiring are new, plus all new running gear at the lowered front, i.e.. ball joints, shock absorbers and tie rod ends. New brake cylinders and hoses at the rear. CV Joints overhauled with new boots. Luckily my son Scott is an auto spray painter, so he picked the color and sprayed the car. I did most of the work myself, learning as I went [apart from the engine overhaul andtinting of the rear window ]. Finally on the road in December 2005.
