The car
left the Australian factory as a 1971 VW 1300 right hand drive sedan.
The engine has since been modified to 1600cc through a piston/barrel
swap then dual Kadron carbs, Bosch 009 distributor and extractor
exhaust have been added. The body is painted "Wild Magenta"
and a sports velour interior is installed. Also inside are a Hurst
style shifter, wood rimmed sports wheel, tacho and Pioneer CD sound
system. Outside there are also 6" chrome rims and wide tyres.
When I re-registered the car the 911 number plates were next to
be issued - very lucky!I found her for sale on the side of the road
3 years ago in a pretty sad rusted condition for only $1000 (about
$800 US). I did all the repairs, modifications and servicing myself.
This is my 7th beetle (I have also had 2 split screen Kombis, 2
type 3s, a VW based beach buggy and 2 VW Golfs.)The car has been
my daily driver for the last 2 years and the rust is starting to
come through all along the roof edge fold overs - again! Unfortunately
this seems to be a common problem with this model in Australia.Recently
I found a 1971 ragtop Superbug with a great rust-free body for $250
(US $180). Beetle number 8. I am starting to prepare the Superbug
body for paint then I plan to move the 1300's interior and mechanical
parts over. Finally I will need to rebuild the front suspension
and CVs of the Superbug. I am a member of the Volkswagen Club of
