Jim's 1966 Beetle

This is my 5th Volkswagen, first show car. It's no wonder how I came to be a Beetle lover; my father had a '51 Split when he was stationed in Germany, my mother's first car was a Beetle, as was my sister's. I was just following suit. My first was a '73 Super, then a '68 Standard, a '66 which I traded for a '69 Squareback, then another '66 Beetle - this one. I originally paid $500 for this car. The owner was fed up with it - starter problems. I too had starter problems. In fact I went through 5, and then a mechanic suggested bypassing the starter relay - no more problems. It was my daily driver for 2 years. I made a couple of mods here and there, like dropped spindles, 5.5" chromies, a stereo, one piece windows. A friend of my boss who did body work converted the doors to suicide and even made them hydraulic. It was a crude job but they worked.
