Dave's 1973 Beetle

My first car was a 1971 Super and I have had a 1974 Super, a 72 Standard and my latest this 1973 Standard. This car started off being owned by a teacher in Boston and because of failing health she stored it for ten years before giving it to her niece in Picton Ontario. She used it as the grocery getter before selling it to a used car lot in Stirling Ont. where it was sold, then sold back to the dealer when I found it sitting in the back field with dozens of other old VW's. I was told it ran when it was parked a year or so back. So I brushed off the snow Boosted the battery and she fired up, under 70,000 miles and as solid as one could ever hope to find. The dealer and I agreed on a price and she was loaded up and hauled home in the snow.

Once it was home and the rest of the snow removed the fender rust etc. showed up, The pan was solid. I have added an adjustable front beam, early style bumpers, Cooper tires, gas shocks, headers, recovered the seats, rear quarter pop outs, tinted the glass and numerous little pieces here and there. The big bonus was that I found a letter in the glove box written by the niece explaining the life history of the bug, as well as the original bill of sale, the trade in slip from her 1965 sun roof bug she traded in , and the window sticker showing what the bug came with .Not to mention the retail price that was less than what I paid for it 28 years later! The Bug and I are now members of the (Ottawa) Capital City VW Club for the cars next 1/4 century of life.
