I got my Beetle in September 1998. I was 15, a freshman in high school and living in Madras, Oregon. My parents drove me the 45 miles to Bend, Oregon to look at the car. I had wanted a Beetle for a few months, and I had set my mind to having one as my first car. I was immediately excited when I saw it, all shiny and yellow. I wanted red, but yellow would do until I could paint it, I thought. A few months after we got the car, Dad was driving me to school (I still didn't have my license, I was only 15!) and the engine quit. We couldn't even push start the car. Our local every-car mechanic wanted $2,000 to make it run again, it needed a total engine overhaul. I just bought it, and didn't have the cash to fix it. My parents, at the time, had just bought at house and were still driving a 1989 Dodge Colt Vista. So, my parents decided to park it. I was disappointed, but I set my mind to earning the money to rebuild my engine. About
