Brian's Standard Beetle

This Bug is a replacement for another that I used to have. It was a nice stock orange 1963 Bug that I got back in '98. That was my first bug, but I had caught the VW fever way before this time. I kept it mostly stock, but added a dual quiet pack muffler to pick up the sound a bit, everyone knew I was in the neighborhood now!! But one sad day, after having some repairs done at a local shop, she caught fire and had to be sold.

At Bug O Rama #46 I was scoping out the show area for a new Bug to cruise in. I didn't really see anything that fit into my budget, and then I saw her. A gorgeous purple and white bug sitting there amongst the sea of other air cooled Volkswagens. I took one look at her and decided that I had to have her. She was beautiful, polished Empi 5 spokes, extremely comfy interior, wicked sound system, very important since my last one didn't have one and it made a trip from Sacramento to LA seem even longer! The engine was a basically stock 1974 1600cc dual port, a 110 cam with a single center mounted Weber 40 and a big phat boy muffler. The price was decent and a few days after the show I called him and a time was set up for me taking delivery of the vehicle. It was one of the longer drives I have been on, all the time anticipating the first time I would be in the driver seat of this fine lowered German auto. When we got there she was just as I had remembered, and even more beautiful as the owner had just washed and given her an oil change. After taking her around the block I knew she was the one, the Empi shifter felt so natural in the palm of my hands and shifted through gears with ease. Even my fiancé was impressed with her and we agreed that we would be taking her home!!

As with all my cars it needed a name, which only comes once the car is driven around enough to get a feel of her personality. The way she moved on the highway was a lot quicker that I expected from a Bug, and people were staring at me like they had never seen a one before. I named her "Lil Hottie", cause she was fast and attracted a lot of attention. After a while of driving her around town I wanted to join a club. Well, that didn't take long as there was a guy that worked right next door to me who would stare day after day at Hottie. He also had a Bug, a '66 and came in to introduce himself. We got talking and he mentioned that he was in a VW club and that I should come out to join them, and I did. I was hooked right from the start! This club has some of the most beautiful Volkswagens you will ever see, Ghias, Busses, and of course Bugs. We cruise around town, go to shows and basically just have a good time with each other.
